It Was So

There were lights in my dream that lit my way
I walked a cobbled street of brick, wet shiny clay
And the girl of my dreams is running away
Maybe just for today
Say say say said...

It was so
Oh I said it was so
I think it so
I said it was so
I said it was so long ago and far away

There are lights in the trees slung so low
I watched a squirrel scamper about, slow pause, quick look then go
And the blue moon asleep on the land shining slow
Always do what it's told (what Newton tells it to do)
Told told told told

It was so
Oh I was told it was so
I think it so
I was told it was so
I was told it was so long ago and far away

   Far back in distant time
Hanging like clothes on a line in a sepia sunshine
Of a photograph I found hidden away
In a drawer, in an attic of an old house on a foggy shore
   A foggy shore...

There's a star overhead pinpoint it's calling my name
It says "Michael, won't you speak up? Come now and hold the flame
Hold it high, hold it strong, hold it firm, hold it long
And say, say it's all the same." (no it ain't, yes it is, no it ain't...)
Say say say said...

It was so
Well I was told it was so
I think it so
I was told it was so
I was told it was so long ago and far away from today
It was so long ago and far away
